Title: Red & Wolfe, Part 1
Author: Ella James
Genre: Erotica
Length: 52 pages
Rating: 4 stars

When Sarah “Red” Ryder loses her job as an art critic for a Boston newspaper, she’s brokenhearted. Worse than that? She’s broke. Her boyfriend recently left her – for a tatted-up hottie with a dick – so she’s stuck paying her hefty apartment rent alone. After two months unemployed, there’s no money left. With no immediate family to turn to, Red reaches out to her estranged grandmother, a reclusive writer living on an island off the coast of Charleston. Several days later, Red receives $30,000 and an invitation to visit.

James Wolfe is not Red’s grandmother. But he beckons her. Red has the ability to give him something he needs. He won’t take “no” for an answer, and he doesn’t mind screwing her over. He lost his conscience six years ago, when he was tried for the murder of his wife. Since then, life is about him – and the paintings he does under the mysterious pseudonym “W.”

Wolfe needs the island to keep painting. To live his life away from prying eyes. To keep up the anonymity of “W.”

Once he sees Red, he finds that he needs her, too. And Wolfe will have her. Any way he can.

Grace’s Review
This is a creative spin on the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood.

Little Red Riding Hood – Sarah “Red” Ryder
The Wolf – James Wolfe, aka Race Hollister
Grandmother – Gerturde

Cute, right?

While this story is short, I thought the author was clever on her retelling of the fairy tale, not just with the names but with the plot in getting Red to her Grandmother’s.  When Red and Wolfe (Race) first meet, their interactions are anything but pleasant.  What’s amusing is how she immediately labels him.

“You’re like . . . the big bad wolf.”

Despite the hostility towards each other, he is quick to eat her up. Literally. Oh yeah!

“I want to taste you. I would love to taste you.”
“I’d . . . hate that!”
“I want to see you hate it.”

Told in alternating POVs, this story is barely getting started, when it ends.  I wish it would have been a little bit longer, but there was enough in this story to get me intrigued and 1-click the next novella. So, on to the next one.

Warning: Don’t read the following review, if you want to avoid spoilers.

Grace’s Review
The heat from the end of part 1 does not cool down in part 2.  It only gets hotter.  These 2 barely get off the boat before they’re ripping off each other’s clothes on the beach.

“You look like you need a good fucking. Is that true, Red? Even from a stranger. You’ll accept a thorough fucking. Take the pleasure that I give you.”

This author is not afraid to use some unique descriptions of their beach encounter.
Wolfe dick – “an enormous, vein-striped, purple-headed fuck machine.”
His first penetration – “his thick cock punches into me, I’m blinded.”
And this – “He rocks against me and I swear to God he’s rearranging me inside.”

Reading this, I’m both terrified and turned on.

Once they get the introductory sex out of the way, Red begins to have second doubts, not only about her slutty behavior, but her even being on the island with this stranger.  She takes off to Grandma’s house to try to uncover something about the woman she never met.

There is a sad twist as Red finds herself lost and without purpose.  But in a strange change of events, Wolfe offers her a new plan.  One that could be beneficial to both of them.  One that she knows is probably wrong, but she can’t help but be tempted.

This story, like the first, ends abruptly.  There is a suspense element, which I love, as Wolfe’s past is coming back to threaten him, and Red discovers one of his secrets.  My mind is working ahead as to whether Red will actually help Wolfe or destroy him.  But, I’ll wait to review Parts 3 & 4 until next week.  Until then, happy humping!
