Mark’s POV novella

I have lost the man I once was, letting guilt and heartache define who I am. Darkness has controlled me, and one woman has seen what no one else has seen in me, what I do not wish to exist. My hunger for her has driven me to the edge of sanity, but no more. She’s about to find out that the Master has returned.

Grace Review
This novella takes place after My Hunger, with some overlap from No In Between.  It centers on the night that police learn more about Rebecca’s disappearance.  As the news slowly unfolds for Mark, you can see his control suffer.  His world is falling apart.

* He’s dealing with the conclusion that Rebecca, a woman who gave him her heart, is not coming back.
* His mother’s health continues to deteriorate, as does his business at Allure.
* He is fighting an attraction to a woman and fears repeating the same mistakes he made with Rebecca.

The last part is the bulk of the storyline in this novella.  With alternating POVs, we learn how both Crystal and Mark are developing feelings for each other, but both are certain it will never work.

Crystal now knows that Mark is a Master, and she knows she doesn’t have a submissive bone in her body.

Mark knows that she isn’t submissive, and yet can’t seem to keep his hands off of her.

“. . . sometimes what someone is going through speaks to you on a level you can’t ignore. And because of that, people who’re completely wrong for each other are completely right in a certain moment in time. Like us right now.”

I know that a lot of people were drawn to Mark’s dominant and arrogant ways in the previous books, but I’m personally enjoying reading about this new layer to him.  This vulnerability.  As he struggles to handle the sad turn of everything around him, Crystal provides the support, and a distraction from the pain.

A Master is supposed to protect his submissive and I simply don’t trust myself right now. I don’t know where that leaves me when control, my control, is what I’ve counted on keeping me and everyone around me safe.

I’m eager to see where Mark and Crystal’s relationship goes from here, in I Belong To You.  This will be the last novel in the series and is due out in November.
