Synopsis

I just want my Grace back. I want the girl I found sending me dirty tweets on Saint Thomas. I want the girl who reluctantly gave in to my charms and let me boss her around. I want the girl who sent me to my knees and made me imagine what her fairy tale would look like with me in it.I just want to move on.I want to plan the future and think about kids and preschools and college funds. I want everything she ever wanted, and I want us to make it happen together. But the media needs more from us. More dirt. More pain. More payment for past transgressions. You can’t change the past. And even though Grace is ready to put her demons to bed, mine are just starting to get restless. Because when you’ve silenced as many enemies as I have, you know that secret won’t stay buried forever.

Grace Review

I’m going to come right out and say it, this review will appear to be a true author ass kissing.  But I assure you, I got, nor will I get anything in return for it.  I purchased every novella, just like everyone else.  Going into this series, I was already a fan of JA Huss’ work, with Ford Aston (from Taut) sitting on my BBF top 5 list.   And she blew me away with this series, my ratings ranging from 4-5 stars (see my previous reviews below), with each book getting better and better.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll repeat it, I loved the layers within this story. Each novella explored something new about the couple, whether it be their individual pasts, or their future together.  This final book brings us full circle, back to the beginning, when Grace came into Vaughn’s world and turned it upside down.  Following the horrific events of Profile, he shows her all the love and compassion he can, but he wants the old Grace back.  And he brings her back with a firm hand.

spanking

“You’re the one who’s got one foot out the door.  I want you to commit, Grace.  And the first step is to submit.”

Vaughn gets it.  Of all the people who have tried to help me, this man – this self-centered, egotistical asshole – gets it.

I loved how this book answered all of the open questions, not just for Grace and Vaughn’s future, but on what direction Grace wanted to go professionally.  A chance meeting with another girl in need gave her perspective and a desire to help others.  I couldn’t think of a better direction for her.

I know a lot of people have waited to read this series once it was complete.  I did the same thing with another popular serial, and I have to say, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the people who read it as it was released. The author touches on this in the End of Book Shit, each novella in this series is very different.  There is a lot going on in each one and reading it as a whole, it actually might be a bit overwhelming.  I’d be curious to hear from someone who reads the series all at once (feel free to share in the comments).

Home teaser 3

I am also saddened to realize this series is over.  Wednesdays will never be the same.  This has been one of the few books/series’ that the three of us (Michelle, YaYa and I) have all read together, starting with the download to our kindles on Wednesday and texting each other throughout.  Some people think reading is an anti-social thing.  But it doesn’t have to be.  This is one of those series’ that is fun to speculate about, drool over, and vent, as a group.  One of few we all loved!

While this might not be fair to other authors, going forward, I will compare other serials to this one.  Not just on how well it was plotted, but how it was released.  The pacing of the releases was enough to build anticipation/anxiety, but the releases weren’t far apart that I was mad at the author for making me wait.

I’m excited to hear that there will be a spinoff serial next summer.   Is it wrong that I hope it’s with Conner and Felicity?   We shall see . . .
