Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis

Love endures all things.

Darby McKenzie’s heart started beating funny the day that she met Trace Chamberlain. She was four, he was five, and that meeting altered the course of both their lives forever.

Trace was born into a nightmare. Before meeting Darby and her family, the only love he ever knew was that of his twin brother. The two of them endured years of abuse that left scars. The permanent kind.

For Trace, meeting Darby was like catching a rainbow. She exploded into his life in a pop of Technicolor that awakened his senses. She wasn’t just his best friend—she was his life. His touchstone, his safety, his heart—she was everything.

Darby had been through it all with Trace and her love for him never wavered for a second. But no amount of love could make Trace believe that he was worthy of her. Knowing that she deserved better, Trace pushed her away, when what he really wanted was to pull her closer. Emotionally destroyed and bitter from the back and forth, Darby finally let go and decided to move on.

Sometimes hitting rock bottom is the only way to understand that you need to change. Realizing that losing Darby means losing everything, Trace knew it was time to man up and fight for the girl he loved.

Is it too late for Darby and Trace to have a happily ever after?

**Content Warning: This isn’t a book about an Alpha male. In fact, the Hero in this story isn’t Trace, it’s Darby. If the idea of the female being the strong one bothers you, this isn’t your kind of book.**

YaYa's Review

Guest Review

Yaya pairs up with Midian from SMI Book Club for this joint review.
Midian: At some point reading this book, I wondered if I was actually reading a book by Ella Fox. All the signs were there, great writing, amazing storytelling, heat, passion, everything. I’ve read, literally, all of her books, I loved the first one in the series, but I honestly could not connect with Darby and Trace.

Yaya: Unlike Midian I didn’t feel the signs except one and I’ll get to that later. I felt like it wasn’t her writing. I’m a little sad Trace and Darby’s story wasn’t as good as his brother’s (Must read Catch My Fall). Not that I expected it to be the same story, I get it they’re twins and they had to be a differential. I only wanted it to be just as good. I knew Ella said He was going to be the broken one and that She would be the hero and I was ok with that. I didn’t feel the connection I felt with the first book in the series.

Midian: My problem? Darby is strong, she’s fun, she’s caring, she’s something kind of wonderful, but she was TOO forgiving. She was too weak for Trace, she put up with too much shit. I wanted her to end with someone other than Trace (I know, I can’t believe it either), she deserved so much better.

Yaya: Darby was lots of fun and came off as strong, but when it came to Trace, it seemed her emotions were all over the place and she let her guard down way too much. Love can make you do some silly things, dumb things, stupid things, but there comes a point when too much is too much. The love she felt for Trace blinded her from what she really needed to do but I need to defend the fact that they needed each other. A healing sort of thing.

Midian: Trace, what an ass. I can maybe imagine what he went through, how those events can be traumatizing, I understand his grandmonster was a complete fucking basket case, his mother one stupid, selfish, fucking waste, excuse of a human being (sorry, but when Fox creates an antagonist, she goes all out, the asshole factor is high as hell). I can try to understand, really, but WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK.

Yahaira: Filth. That’s what they are. A mother and daughter piece of shit duo. Trace and his brother were doomed from day one. Lies. I’m still shocked it went on for so long. It with ripped my heart open to read the kind of abuse they went through. So did that make it better to understand Trace? A little. His actions would make me see red, but more when it was towards Darby. He would always fuck things up. I’m not even going to count how many times I wanted to hug him with my hands around his neck. Congratulations Trace you have earned a Pansy Award.

Midian: It pissed me the fuck off that Darby went through so much shit with Trace, he could’ve gotten help and save all the fucking heartbreak, every time he lost his shit and Darby FORGAVE HIM, I felt like killing something. I HATE TRACE, there, I said it.

Yahaira: He needs Oprah.

Midian: It made me sad that Darby kept losing herself because of him, I didn’t like the fact that she forgave him so easily, fuck, sometimes she even begged him and again, it pissed me off. Trace got away with shit too easily and I felt like killing his ass so many times. I won’t tell what he does, you must read to find out, but really.

Yaya: This leads back to what I said about her in the beginning. I liked her character and her strong image, but when it came to Trace, that went all down the drain. Too forgiving, too thoughtful, too helpful. If that’s not love, than what is? These are the parts I couldn’t see past. Darby was his hero and he was too weak to see it.

Midian: Besides the shit that Trace did, I loved everything else. I loved Darby’s parents; they are what cool shit is made of. I loved Tristan and Mia, just like in the first book.

Yahaira: Couldn’t agree with you more Midian. Darby’s parents were what they should all be made of. Definitely giving them the Best Parents Award. Always sticking by their daughters side, by the boys side. They’re unconditional love to two broken boys who needed nothing more than to feel wanted. Needed. That was one of my favorite parts of the story. How Ella managed for these two adults to be the Saviors. Finally some adults with sense.

Midian: I loved Darby (OMG, I know, are we in a parallel universe?)

Yahaira: That’s my image for Midian admitting she loved Darby. That bitch hates everyone. I liked her not loved her. Loved her even more when she finally put her foot down. I did a big FINALLY, she’s awake.

Midian: If you are looking for a rollercoaster ride, this is your book, it was awesome, but again, I hate Trace and I believe Darby deserved better.

Heat factor? C’mon, this is Ella Fox, woman knows her stuff *lick lick*

Yahaira: So here’s where I knew it was Ella who wrote this. Heat factor Midian? No, more like how many sham-wows do you need while reading Ella’s sexy times?  Fuck she’s good. So steamy you can feel it from your toes to the top of your head. She really knows how to make you feel a first time and goodbye fucks, my GAWD. Let me say Trace in the bed, Hot Dayum!!!!

Laters Baby. Happy Readings💋
