Blog Tour (Book Review & Excerpt): The Ground Rules Rewritten by Roya Carmen

Title: The Ground Rules Rewritten (The Ground Rules #2)
Author: Roya Carmen @royacarmen
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 284 pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Five simple rules. And it was very simple…until it wasn’t.

It could have been much worse. We weren’t thinking straight and had put everything on the line – risking our marriages. So when Weston ended the arrangement, it was for the best – for all of us. But I was still heartbroken. I thought I’d shatter into a million pieces. I didn’t, I survived. Not only did I survive, I came out stronger and ready to move on with my life.

But then…

Weston reaches out to me. With a few soft words, a gentle touch and a lingering gaze, he crumbles all my efforts.

Neither Gabe nor I want to start this again, and we are determined to fight the temptation. But Weston and Bridget are not taking no for an answer, and the pull between all of us is still so strong.

I tell myself I can handle it this time. This time, I am in the driver’s seat. This time, I am rewriting the ground rules.

Michelle's Review

Ground Rules rewritten picks up where that last book left off.  In the last book, Weston and Bridget wanted to end the spouse swapping.  Things were getting too personal for Weston especially since he knew how Mirella really felt (breaking Rule # 5 (if you read the first book, you already know the rules).  Mirella was the most upset about the “break up” and the way the “break up” was handled.  Mirella is just trying to pick up the pieces and move forward with her life with Gabe and her girls and after three months, she receives a call from Weston.

After Weston’s many attempts, he finally convinces Mirella to give the spouse swapping another chance.  You get a sense that Weston has some deep feelings for Mirella.  After discussing it with Gabe, he’s all in again, but he wants to make certain that this is what she really wants.  Although Gabe is really in for the sex, he really loves Mirella, and he’s very alpha.  Mirella decides that she is making certain for the benefit of her sanity and her heart, that if she’s going to move forward, it will be on her terms and her terms only.  She will decide when and where she will meet with Weston.  I liked this new Mirella, but I sensed that this scenario may not last long either.

There was an all couples only vacation planned.  I am not going to lie, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen with these couples.  Things were very interesting in Hawaii because the couples made sure they would only be with their own spouses during the trip, but that didn’t mean certain things wouldn’t take place.

There was another trip with just Weston, Mirella and their kids and oh boy that was a little interesting to say the least.  Coming back to Chicago though, Mirella was feeling her heart and emotions towards Weston.  She loves Gabe and does not want her relationship to change with her husband especially she is sensing her heart being torn.  So this time, she decides to end things, but more efficiently than the way Weston and Bridget did with them in the last book.  Yea, Weston didn’t take this well, the word stalker comes to mind.

The author has captivated me even more so with the second book.  Her writing is superb, she makes you question what exactly is the heroine feeling.  Again, this book is written in Mirella’s POV, but you get more answers as to why Weston and Bridget decided to start having an open marriage.  But I really wanted to know how Bridget and Gabe are truly feeling for each other.  As I mention, I think Gabe is just in it for the sex, but he truly loves Mirella, I want to know if that is the case with Bridget.  This book ends in another cliffhanger and it was a doozy.  I need book 3 like now, but I will have to wait until the beginning of 2016.

Just Plain Dirty – Mirella and Gabe

He catches me staring and shoots me a playful smile. He knows exactly what I’m thinking. I walk over to the bedroom door and lock it – which is basically code for ‘let’s fuck…very quietly’.

He turns off the TV and slides to the edge of the bed, pulling me to him. “Tell me you didn’t fuck him.”

“I didn’t. I wouldn’t do that to you.”

He slides a hand under my tweed skirt. “But you wanted to. You wanted him.”

I grab his face and stare into his beautiful eyes. Words escape me.

He toys with my panties and presses his fingers against the cotton. I close my eyes. I’m already so aroused, and he’s barely touched me.

He teases. His stare is intense as he studies me intently – as if he’s trying to break through, to read my thoughts. He pulls at my panties, not taking his gaze off my face. I anticipate his next move. I want him so badly.

“Take them off,” I practically beg.

His smile is playful when he obliges. He doesn’t take his eyes off mine as he slides the cotton briefs slowly down my legs and over my feet. He kisses my knee, a soft peck.

His warm hand travels up the inside of my thigh. My breath catches when he reaches my sweet spot. He glides his fingers against my sex and I whimper at the sensation. His touch is so amazing.

His eyes close. A whisper of a growl escapes his mouth. “You’re so fucking wet, you dirty girl.”
