Working at a law firm comes with its own set of rules, and Blaire has broken rule number one. Consorting with the opposition could get her fired. In the blink of an eye, all of her hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations could be dismissed.

She knows this.

Joel, EJ – whoever he is – is the enemy.  Persona non grata.  Her mins is aware of his standing. But her body? Not so much. It remembers every moment shared. Every flirty smile and witty comeback. Every whispered word with carefully placed hands.

Falling into bed with him was easy.  Getting him to stay away will be the hardest thing she’s ever faced.

To say Rachel and me were waiting with baited breath for book 2 is putting it mildly.  I can tell you that it picks up where book 1 left off, a really pissed off Blaire that’s for sure!  She’s so confused and angry.  On top of everything else, now she has to worry that she may lose her job for sleeping with the enemy, sought of speak.

“He was too easy-going, too masculine. He smelled too good. I should have known that he was too good to be true. Men like that should come with a warning: “Could be hazardous to your life. At the very least your libido.”

So we finally have some answers after that cliffhanger at the end of Shut In, and all I can say is thank god! A bombshell was dropped on Blaire when she discovered Joel was the ex-boyfriend accused of domestic violence by a woman that her firm was representing. There were a bunch of questions as to whether or not Joel knew who Blaire was when he met her at the bar, and throughout the book we finally get some answers about Joel and his background. While Blaire is unsure of whether or not Joel is capable of something so awful, she knows she can’t put her job in jeopardy and decides to cut off all ties to Joel. As frustrating as that was, I was actually quite proud of Blaire. She worked hard to get where she was, and she prioritized herself and her career over a man who, while very sexy, was someone she hardly knew, and I found that rather refreshing.

I’m not going to lie, I was a little hesitant about Joel in book 1 and what was his end goal, but you get a little more information.  And he’s even more swoon worthy than ever before.  I have to hand it to Joel, he goes above and beyond to get Blaire’s attention so she can hear his side of the story.  I really loved all the romantic gestures, but Blaire said it best “I didn’t expect from this man who had more secrets than Area 51.”  Of course, staying with Joel can come with a price.

Ahh Joel. He really did go above and beyond. He was so secretive in the first book, but so very open and forthcoming in this one, and he went to all sorts of lengths to get Blaire to give him another chance. He used every trick in the book. Some of them down right dirty. Some of them impossibly adorable (which may or may not have included a singing telegram). The man is nearly impossible to resist, and it it amused to me greatly to see what else he could come up with to get her back.

Can we talk about the “victim”, she is one fry away from a Happy Meal is all I’m going to say.  I have a feeling about her, but I will keep my thoughts about her to myself, you may see the same things I am thinking about.  I need to book 3 like yesterday, again.  The sexy times of course keep getting hotter and hotter, so you know, have “toys” at the ready.  All I keep thinking about is Joel’s Prince Albert piercing, sigh!

We’re introduced to a new character here, and I figured this person was going to pop up at some point but I never expected her to be so nuts. She’s obviously got some sort of plan but I have no idea what her endgame is or what she’s after. When it becomes apparent that this person is a serious danger, they are once again forced to shack up. Only instead of taking up residence in Blaire’s humble abode they’re now forced to stay at Joel’s mansion. The sexual chemistry between the two of them was even better in this book, and I’m sure it will only get hotter when they’re forced to stay together yet again. Only instead of a Mother Nature forcing them together it’s something more dangerous, and this cliffhanger has me wanting to see how this all plays out.

Shut In  (Book 1)

Blaire didn’t know much about one-night stands, but she knew how they’re supposed to go. A night where inhibitions are thrown out, no names, no attachments, and in the morning you both go your separate ways, never to speak again. At least that’s what was supposed to happen.

Mother nature had other plans.

She established boundaries: No details, no more sex. But Joel was never much for following the rules. With a body built for sex and an appetite to match, one night with him would never be enough. Torn between the case that could make her legal career and a man who thinks of clothes as optional, how long could she stick to the rules?

He spun me around.  Facing him, he pushed down my skirt,

and I stepped out of the binding clothing.  Joel pulled me close, and my hands slipped beneath his shirt, finding purchase in the muscles that acted like steppingstones to the rest of his body. My bra came loose, and soon I was standing completely naked before him. He took a couple steps back until he was flush with the bed, where he sat down and positioned me between his legs so he could feast on my body. He kissed across my collarbone and around my breasts, and I thrust my chest out, signaling exactly where I wanted those kisses. I dug my fingers into his hair, and the dark strands darted up between my clenched fists as I pulled his head closer. He took a hint and his tongue peeked out to lick each of my nipples as his fingers found their way between my legs. There were no tentative touches. When it came to sliding between my legs, Joel went straight for gold. He struck my pleasure center, circling my clit with those large fingers of his.

“What do you want inside this cunt first?  My fingers or my dick?” he asked as his fingers circled my opening.

I didn’t answer him. Instead, I took his hand in mine and showed him just where he could put those fingers. I helped him enter my body and trembled as I welcomed two of his fingers inside me. He rocked in and out of me with gusto, taking my nipple between his teeth, so every part of my body was efficiently tortured. Joel pulled me closer, and I stumbled and fell into his lap with knees pressed on either side of him on the bed.

“I’ve missed watching you come. How your eyes flutter as I bring you to release. Like a hummingbird’s wings. Things are going to be a little different tonight though, Blaire, because

when I make you come over and over again, I’m going to force you to look in my eyes so you and your body both know I’m the one who makes you come like this. Nobody else. Do you understand, Blaire?”

“Yes.  Please, Joel.”

“Is my pretty bird ready for the first one already? I should torture this little pussy like it’s been torturing me. Tell me, Blaire, how many times have I made you come since the day you kicked me out?”

“I don’t know.  I can’t remember.”

“Too many to count?”

“Yes, Joel, yes.  It was too many…every day, Joel. You made me come every day. I couldn’t stop thinking about you.

You were a sickness I wanted to purge from my body.”

His fingers escaped me, and before I had a chance to protest the emptiness he left me with, he

began circling my clit—faster, harder, as if he couldn’t control the pace his fingers set.

“If I’m a sickness you can purge, then baby, I’m doing something wrong.”
