Synopsis

I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

I am new to Brittainy Cherry and as most people would be with a new author, I was a little hesitant but shew, new favorite author! Her writing was smooth and her plot lines were solid. She can write a perfect jaded brooding man and a strong but saddened woman and make it work in the story’s favor. This book had me from page one to the end. It consumed me. I was pulled into these characters and the heartbreak and healing for each of them

How do you stay away from someone that knows your pain and suffering in ways that other people do not? You don’t. Even when everyone you know keeps telling you to stay away from him that he is a cruel dark man.

Tristan is that man. He is broken. As broken as a man can get and his character was written perfectly for us to see that. You felt his pain and anger. He doesn’t talk or associate with anyone that he doesn’t have to unless needed and even then it is a struggle.

Elizabeth comes back to town to face her recent past and has the help from her best friend and a guy who has always had an eye for her (unbeknownst to her). She is sweet and caring but knows when to stand her ground. Her number one priority is her daughter and starting a new life. She is the friend that you can depend on and just want to have a glass of wine with.

Her new neighbor happens to be, you guessed it, Tristan. She recognizes the pain within Tristain because she has that same pain within herself. Elizabeth tries to give him the benefit of the doubt and has to constantly defend him to others. Each of them try to make through each day and find themselves depending on each other to do so. Their ways of healing might not seem wise but for them it is simply what they need at the time.

You experience their grief as you are right there with them. You see the attraction forming between the two and are honestly cheering them to heal and be at one with each other. You fall in step with them and want to race to the finish line to see how their story unfolds. Naturally there are going to be some obstacles, some that you see right away and some you are blindsided with.

Let this story Breathe you in.
