My Final “Best” for 2015 – @RachelAnn901

Best Book: Forbidden by C.D. Reiss
The book was exquisite torture for me. It was dark, raw, erotic, psychologically intriguing, intensely emotional, and it broke and mended my heart too many times to count. No other book got to me on such an acute level to the point where I agonized over every moment. Reiss’ writing was flawless, and she gave me everything I could ever want in a book and more. And honestly, who can resist a love triangle with the woman caught between her Master and her therapist? The drama practically writes itself.

Author of the Year: J.A. Huss
This woman has been very busy this year and I can honestly say I loved everything of hers that I read. She gave me sexy superheroes with Anarchy Found, forbidden student/teacher romance with 18, dark suspense with Meet Me in the Dark and Wasted Lust, and last but not least she gave me my second favorite book of the year and one of the best m/f/m I’ve ever read with Three, Two, One. She gave me all of that and she gave it to me with her signature style and penchant for plot twists and mindfucks. J.A. Huss made my 2015 a very interesting year!

Best Series: The Original Sinners by Tiffany Reisz, Sins of Lethe by Arden Aoide
I loved both of these series and couldn’t pick between them so I decided to be greedy. Both of these combine elements of religion and erotica and yet they couldn’t be more different. The Original Sinners has long been my favorite series, and with The King and then The Queen this year, Reisz gave me the most perfect ending to one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read. Sins of Lethe is one of the most unique series I’ve come across and it’s hard to categorize. It’s an interesting mix of religion and erotica set within a dystopian society, and Arden’s writing left me speechless. I recommend it to anyone brave enough try something outside their comfort zone.

Biggest Mindfuck: Jezebel by K. Larsen
The twist at the end of Jezebel was so shocking that when I finished I had to put down my iPad and tell myself “It’s only a story. It’s alright.” It was one hell of a mindfuck and in fact, I think my brain is still recovering. K. Larsen deserves a round of applause for that one.

Best tearjerker: The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar
This book should come with a warning to make sure readers have a box of Kleenex with them before they start. Tearjerker doesn’t even begin to describe it. It was emotionally gut wrenching and beautiful, and my emotions felt like they’d gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, but I’ll gladly let myemotions be abused if the writing is as stellar as Leylah’s.

Best Comedy: Sustained by Emma Chase
Emma Chase proved once again that no one writes male POVs better than she does, and no one can do it with her humor or panache. So many moment and lines had me either giggling or straight up laughing out loud. But what made this book even more special was the heart of it. When I finished I felt like I’d been wrapped in a warm blanket, and Jake has earned his spot on my list of top 10 book boyfriends. The man was perfect in every conceivable way.

Best Romantic Suspense: Corrupt by Penelope Douglas
Penelope knows how to set a mood with a book. There was an eerie atmosphere throughout Corrupt that set me on edge as I tried to guess what was going on. Yet somehow the creepiness and the danger somehow made everything hotter. And in case you need a little more convincing, it had one of the hottest sex scenes I’ve ever read. All I’ll say is “threesome” and “steam room”.

Best Threesome: Three, Two, One by J.A. Huss
I already named Forbidden as my Book of the Year, but I loved this one just as much so I feel obligated to have it somewhere on my list, and one of the things I was most impressed with was the way she wrote the relationship between two men and a woman. It was messy, it was complicated, it was sexy, it was filled with drama and jealousy and love, and it felt completely real to me. And because this is J.A. Huss there were shocking reveals and plot twists galore. Truly one of the best books I read this year.

Book Boyfriend: Søren, The Original Sinners Series
There were so many men to choose from this year, and I love all of them for different reasons, but really there is only one choice for me and he will always be my number one pick. Anytime an Original Sinners book comes out, Søren will reign supreme. Everything about him is epic and perfect. I’ve seen him so many different ways over the course of this series but in The Queen I got to see a different side to him, a desperate and lost side. And it made me love him all the more.

Favorite Female: Fiona Drazen, Forbidden
Normally my pick would be Nora Sutherlin who, like Søren, is my forever # 1. She set the standard for what I want in female characters but this time I had to go with someone different. Nora may own my heart but Fiona absolutely crushed it. No other character had experienced so much change or overcome so much over the course of abook. I’ve never wanted so badly for a character to be ok and figure their life out and make better choices as much as I wanted it for Fiona. I felt like I was constantly holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop, andwhen I finished the epilogue I felt like I could finally breathe again. Fiona was a hot mess, but she was also fierce, funny, loyal, brave and completely unforgettable.
