Synopsis

From New York Times Bestseller Pepper Winters comes a timeless love story answering the question of what happens when everything is stripped away.

“There is a message for everything. From handwritten to verbal, seen and unseen. Messages exist all around us.”

But what if you don’t see?
What if you don’t understand?

What if, by ignoring the message, your life is never the same again?

Estelle Evermore morphed from nobody to somebody overnight.

Galloway Oak put his past behind him and endeavored to make his fortune using his trade.

Two strangers.

One plane.

Multiple unseen messages.

From sky to island, they find neither fame nor skills can save them. Stripped from society and left alone to survive the elements, the very task of staying alive outweighs all other needs.

Until survival turns to desire.

And desire turns to danger.

Grace Review

This is a story about survival.
This is a story about heartbreaking loss and new beginnings.
This is a story self-discovery.
This is a story of redemption.
This is a story about discovering the beauty in one another, and the strength to endure.

Through her eloquent prose, the author takes you on a harrowing journey about four souls coming together, making a new life and forming everlasting bonds of love and friendship.

This book is unlike any other book the author has put out previously.  It is not dark AT ALL.  It’s intense, yes.  While this is categorized by some as a romance, there is so much more going on in this story, that I would classify this as fiction.  With that said, have no fear, you will get a HEA.

I don’t want to give away the story-line, but you can guess early on what is going to happen.  Death is inevitable, but for whom, I can’t disclose.  Fear is certain.  With each day that goes by, you get hope that the group will survive.

Maybe the messages weren’t about dying but awakening.

This story centers on four people, two adults, Estelle and Galloway, and two siblings, Conner and Pippa.  There are highs and lows as they come together under extreme circumstances.  There’s a sweet love story, as the two adults give in to the attraction that was felt the first time they met.

I didn’t know this woman, yet everything about her shackled a collar around my neck and made me want to beg for scraps of attention.

They also become surrogate parents, guiding, nurturing and protecting the siblings.  There is hope that they will find their HEA.  Will they get it, as a group?  I can’t say.

If bad luck comes in threes, than I would think this author applied that per person, because damn, the four in this book faced one hardship after another.  I don’t know how they had the mental strength to go on.  Sometimes, that strength did fade when it all became too much.  I could totally sympathize.

Rather go into detail about the story, I’ll keep my thoughts to the characters that captured my emotions.

*Estelle – as one of the 2 POVs, she’s an intriguing character.  She has so much passion, but so much self-doubt.  She seems lost in who she wants to be, and if forced to examine her path when others rely on her.  She has endless strength, more than I could have managed.  And when she lets go and finally lets Galloway in, they create something beautiful.

*Galloway – as the second POV, going into this story he’s grumpy, he’s self-centered, he’s got a huge chip on his shoulder.  After the accident, he is given a second chance, a chance to do good.  It takes some time for him to realize this, and show some civility.  His growth in the story is one of the highlights.  How he struggles with lust for Estelle.  How he overcomes pain.  How he becomes a father figure.  He is a completely different person at the beginning compared to the end.  And yes, he finds the redemption he seeks.

*Conner – I adored this boy, the eldest of the siblings.  I loved his little crush.  I loved his bravery.  I loved how he cared for his sister.

*Pippa – While everyone struggled with their new world, this young girl seemed to take things the hardest.  What she faced, coupled with the lack of knowledge on how to deal with such loss and change at such a young age, made everything more of an emotional toll on her.

My only complaint would be that the overall story was long.  I realize what the author was doing, condensing the story may have taken away from the experiences these four faced. But maybe the frustrating cat and mouse game between Estelle and Galloway could have been eliminated or reduce.  Just my opinion.

“Stel.  I’m going to claim you, satisfy you, corrupt you.”

In the end, love and growth of each character made it easy to connect with them and pray for a better fate.  The epilogue was perfect and exactly what I wanted for this group.  Prepare to be taken on an emotional journey as this group takes on a harrowing new beginning.
