I haven’t touched a human in three years. That seems like it would be a difficult task, but it’s not. Not anymore, thanks to the internet.

I am, quite possibly, the most popular recluse ever. Not many shut-ins have a 200-member fan club, a bank account in the seven-figure range, and hundreds of men lining up to pay for undivided attention.

They get satisfaction, I get a distraction. Their secret desires are nothing compared to why I hide… my lust for blood, my love of death.

Taking their money is easy. Keeping all these secrets… one is bound to escape.

What if you hid yourself away because all you could think of was killing? And what if one girl’s life depending on you venturing into society?

Enter a world of lies, thrills, fears, and all desires, in this original thriller from A. R. Torre.

Grace Review
Story: 5 stars
Those words best sum up this unique and spell-binding story of a woman willingly trapped in her apartment, 6E, which captivated and fascinated me from the start.

Usually with my audio books, I know exactly what I plan to listen to next.  Yet this month, I was at a loss.  So I turned to our reading group on FB, After Dark Reading, and asked for some suggestions. Then one of our followers suggested this book, my first thought was, “this is on audio?”  This is one of those books that I’ve wanted to read for some time, but never seemed to get that time.  Add to it that our fellow reviewer, Yaya, loves this series, then I knew I had to 1-click.

Deanna is not your typical heroine.  She’s a loner who doesn’t want or need physical interaction with others.  At night, she has dark thoughts, dangerous urges, and has chosen to protect others through her isolation.  During the day, she gives men pleasure, remotely.

The genre of this book has me stumped to describe.  One genre it is classified as is erotic. There is no doubt that this book is extremely sexual in nature, but there is one missing element – a hero for the heroine.  You read that right.  Yes, while there is a potential suitor for the heroine, Jeremy, but the sexual side of this story comes solely from Deanna.  She is a walking, talking hard on waiting to happen.

Given her profession, one she does very well, she has learned to adapt to the needs of her clients, even though that request may be disturbing.  Those disturbing requests of her clients is how that the other genre is introduced, that being a thriller.  We first learn of Ralph’s obsession via Deanna’s POV, as her new client’s requests send of warning alarms for her.  With the addition of a young girl’s POV, the fear element is built.

I don’t want to give away how this thriller part develops but it is so well crafted, it will have you nervous with anticipation, yet cheering on Deanna.  While my initial impression of this story and where it was going had me nervous for Jeremy, there is a whole other character who is not prepared for the beautifully volatile Deanna.

Everything about this story is perfect.  This is one of those books where I don’t have a single criticism.  Great plot.  Great characters.  All blended with sex and terror.

Performance: 5 stars
From her very first sentence, I knew I’d like this narrator.  I’m not sure if the author auditioned narrators or just got lucky, but she found a gem with this one.  Her voice is very sensual, which is fitting, given her profession.  What’s interesting is how she mixed that sensuality with innocence and questionable mental stability.  One minute she sounds like a sweet school girl, another she sounds like a demented killer.  It was just the perfect voice to capture all of Deanna’s layers.

Overall: 5+++ stars
Can you tell how much I loved this book?  This was exactly what I needed!  Definitely one of those “what made me wait so long” type of books.

Now that I’ve had a taste of Deanna and her wicked sexy mind, I am hooked. So it’s on to the next book, Do Not Disturb.
