Sienna Diaz is everyone’s favorite “fat” funny lady. The movie studio executives can’t explain it, but her films are out-grossing all the fit and trim headliners and Hollywood’s most beautiful elite. The simple truth is, everyone loves plus-sized Sienna.

But she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the backroads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.

Sienna is accustomed to high levels of man-handsome, so it’s not Jethro’s chiseled features or his perfect physique that make Sienna stutter. It’s his southern charm. And gentlemanly manners. And habit of looking at her too long and too often.

Sienna has successfully navigated the labyrinth of Hollywood heartthrobs. But can she traverse the tenuous trails of Tennessee without losing her head? Or worse, her heart?

The Good

Lose yourself in another excellent Winston romance: The Winstons are a bearded band of brothers that everyone should get to know. Ms. Reid has outdone herself this time, and this tale is filled with humor, strong characters, including positive female relationships that I love to read about. Now, while Ms. Reid is all that and a bag of Wavy Lays, and I adored getting to know Jethro better, my true love this time ‘round is Sienna.

Sienna Diaz, a heroine I identified with: She’s quirky and funny, like I expect from my Reid heroines, and the fact that she’s Latina and curvy, well, she’s a woman after my own heart. I love seeing this ‘verse open up with a bit of color and reflect the diverse we live in. Now, I have a real soft spot for the curvy heroine, so I’m always on the lookout for a bbw romance, but I struggle with the fact that the majority focus so much on the heroine’s size that the story gets short shrift. So not the case here. I adored how Sienna embraced herself when others were more than eager to make her self-conscious about being “normal,” instead of Hollywood’s definition of beauty. She’s the type of heroine I love to see.

Jethro, a hero that I admired, not just loved: Jethro has a past he’s not proud of, following his ne’er do well father (and that’s the kindest thing I could call that man), and disappointing his siblings. About five years ago, Jethro turned his life around and has worked hard to be a better man. That man is someone who any woman would be proud to call her own and even when he doesn’t believe that, Sienna sees the beauty in him. He’s a bit of a runner, but there was never a time I didn’t understand the reasons for it.

Slow burn that made me crazy: And I mean this in the best way, even when the urge to yell at them to just do it was strong. The connection between Jethro and Sienna is immediate and chemistry-filled, the banter sexy with a bit of sweet. The heat is there, but it surely simmers for a long, long time.

While I love every brother…: Roscoe is adorable, Billy’s life is coming into focus, and Beau is a man I can’t wait to get to know, but Cletus? His eccentric, smart and slightly evil genius makes me love him more every book. To say I want to see Cletus’ kitchen is an understatement. I’m kind of hoping a certain baker catches his eye, but no matter who ends up with him, she will be one lucky heroine.

The Bottom Line

I loved this entry in the Penny Reid oeuvre. It made me smile from beginning to end and made me wish for my very own Winston brother. Each time I think I couldn’t love them more, another entry comes out and makes me even happier. I highly recommend you take a long and winding trip through Ms. Reid’s books – you won’t regret it.
