Book 3 of 3 in the Nine Minutes Trilogy.

A Gift of Time is the third installment in the Nine Minutes Trilogy. It is not intended to be a stand-alone novel, but could be read as one. Still, I highly recommend that you read my first two novels, Nine Minutes and Out of Time, to be able to understand the background stories of the main characters. There are many twists and turns in both books that can best be connected if read consecutively.

Are some secrets meant to stay buried?

Three months have passed since Jason “Grizz” Talbot was put to death by lethal injection for crimes he committed. His former wife, Ginny, whom he had abducted from a convenience store when she was a teenager and became the love obsession of his life, has spent more than the last decade trying to carve out a life of normalcy in the bustling suburbs of Fort Lauderdale—including a thriving and happy marriage to Tommy “Grunt” Dillon, a former member of Grizz’s gang.

Tired of the secrets and the lies, Ginny and Tommy thought the final piece of their past could be left behind forever with Grizz’s execution. However, the past comes crashing around Ginny and Tommy when a newly discovered secret threatens to destroy their marriage.

When tragedy strikes, Ginny is forced to reach into her heart and decide, once and for all, what she really wants.

In this third book in the Nine Minutes trilogy, A Gift of Time takes readers from the busy tropical metropolis of South Florida into the serenity of the North Carolina Blue Ridge mountains as Ginny chases down the answers she needs.

Will she have the strength to confront the secrets of her past…and her heart?

Grace Review

NOTE: Do not read this review if you don’t want spoilers from book two.

The final ride.

The end of an epic trilogy.

Where all the pieces come into place.

This book felt like a second chance story, not just for love, but for a new life.  Told from multiple POVs, we learn what led up to the final scenes in book two, particularly how Grizz was able to do what he did, and we get a deeper look into each character.  The reasons behind their actions.  There’s a lot of growth and reflection in this story, along with some forgiveness.

Two rings.  One of ink and one of gold.  Not too many women would ever know the blessing of being loved so deeply by more than one man.

This book does not pick up where the last book left off.  Instead there is a rewind of sorts, which helps to fill in some holes from the previous books.  To avoid spoilers, I don’t want to go into details, but I can tell you that we learn about:

In the past
Mimi’s boyfriend Elliott, total dickhead
Grizz’s time in jail, where he befriends Bill, a key ally down the road
Leslie’s path into the group

In the present
Ginny’s struggle with the knowledge of Grizz’s survival
The growing tensions between Tommy and Sarah Jo’s
What happens to Tommy
Sarah Jo’s fate

“Secrets have almost ruined my life.  I won’t let them ruin our children’s.”

Of the three stories, this one felt the least gritty.  Of course Grizz has moments of deep anger where he goes off, but it was interesting that each instance was fueled by protecting someone he barely knew.  Once out, Grizz has completely changed.  New name.  New attitude.  Keeping low and staying out of trouble.  For the first time in his life, he is aware of the potential consequences of his actions, and that changes everything.

The reunion between Ginny and Grizz isn’t sunshine and rainbows.  Ginny has been through hell and back because of him and forgiveness doesn’t come easy.  It was interesting to see who the catalyst was for it all.

The big surprise in this book was Mimi, who’s POV is key.  She has truly grown up and matured.  She has faced heartbreak several times, and with the ending, I have my fingers, toes and arms crossed that she gets a spin off book.

With the end of book two, I had so much anger and frustration.  I wanted people to pay.  I wanted answers.  With this book, the author shows you how some of that anger is unjustified.  Each character provides new insight and it all begins to make sense.

This ride has been a bumpy one, Filled with fear, anger, passion, heartbreak, confusion, and acceptance.  We’ve seen how that ride has molded and shaped each character, for better or worse.  And we get that ride off into the sunset that every romance reader craves.

“Time is the real gift, Ginny, because it’s the one thing you can never get back.”

– Grace
