Synopsis

***STANDALONE SPIN-OFF in the BACK TO LIFE SERIES***

Life made me resilient.
Love made me vulnerable.
Marriage made me… Emily Diaz.

When I married the man of my dreams, I assumed it was forever.

So when circumstances called for me to leave the man I loved, it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life.

But betrayal changes everything.
And everything happens for a reason.

Being in love with myself enough to walk away brought me back to life.
Being in love with my life again brought me back to reality.
Being in love with someone else, well, that brought me back to December.

Back to December is part of the Back to Life Series, but you can read as a standalone.  This is my first Danielle Allen novel and someone that I may have to add to my TBR list.

The Prologue starts 13 Years back.  Now for those who have read Ms. Allen’s  Back to Life and Back to Reality, you already met Emily, you see how she, Sahara and her brother Manny got into a car accident that thwarted her dancing efforts.  Moving 13 years forward, Emily is now married to a doctor, Anthony. Having been married to Anthony for three years, he has done some messed up things, but the worst of them is was, his cheating.

Emily packs her bags and drives all the way to Atlanta to get away and think about her life.  She ends up at club December where she immediately befriends one of the owners, Addison who immediately reminds Emily of her best friend, Sahara.  She’s then introduced to the co-owner CJ Addo.  Instant attraction for Emily.  The flirtation and banter between these two was hot.

CJ is very alpha, but a sweet and nice guy all the same.  What I liked about CJ that after finding out about Emily’s pending divorce, he did not take advantage of her vulnerability.  Their friendship spans for almost a year.  Her friendship with Addison gets even closer.  For those of you who were a fan of Tyree, he definitely makes an appearance in this book.  There was also another surprise which I had a feeling about.

This book was a very slow burn, which when you read Emily’s story, you really needed the slow burn.  I know for her to jump into a quick relationship no matter the attraction would have been a turnoff for me. You will see Emily become a stronger woman.  You’re going to love CJ as well.  He’s the type of man you would want to have by your side.

I really enjoyed Back to December, there was a lot of inner monologue and funny anecdotes, I did want Emily to get out of her head space, but understand why she over thought certain situations. If you’re looking for a second chance at love with a slow burn, then add Back to December to your TBR.
