The name’s Barrett Callahan. Yeah, that Barrett Callahan—the one the press dubbed “Bare” after those naked sexting pictures surfaced. At twenty-five, I was armed with an MBA from Harvard, an executive position at my father’s Fortune 500 company, a penthouse, and a different piece of delectable eye candy in my bed every weekend. I had a life most men dreamed of. But then my father decided to run for president, and my playboy lifestyle became a liability to his campaign that was built on family values. My “makeover” comes in the form of a fake fiancée who I don’t even get to choose–one who is an uptight, choirgirl acting priss but also sexy-as-hell.

My latest relationship had gone down in flames, and I was drowning in a sea of student loans when in true Godfather status, James Callahan made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. Seven figures for seven months on the campaign trail pretending to be the adoring fiancée of his son, Barrett. As soon as he won the election, our engagement would be dissolved amicably for the press, I was free to ride off into the sunset a million dollars richer, and because of the NDA, no one would be the wiser. Sure, I’d never met the guy, but I’d been a theater nerd in high school. I could pull off any role from Lady Macbeth to Maria Von Trapp. But that was before I met my fake fiancé—the infuriating, self-absorbed, egotistical, drop-dead-sexy King of the Manwhores.

The race will be a fight to the death finish, and that’s not even the actual campaign.

With politics being such a hot button here in the U.S., Katie Ashley gives us a rom/com to hopefully give us some laughs.

Murphy’s Law, anything that can go run, did go wrong for Addison Monroe. After a fall, flashing the construction workers her thong and then breaking the heel of her favorite Jimmy Choo shoes, was else can happen to Addison Monroe? Well that is until the head campaign manager wants to speak to her, a suddenly she feels doomed. Addison is the volunteer coordinator for Sen. James Callahan who is running for President.

Just when Addison thinks she being let go, she finds herself with Senator Callahan. He is narrowly winning the primaries and makes an offer which Addison cannot refuse.  His middle son, Barrett is the known playboy of the family. With his oldest brother away fighting for his country and his youngest sister in school, he’s the missing link to secure the nomination. Senator Callahan wants to clean up Barrett’s image and have him “engaged” to Addison.

After meeting “Bare” Barrett, Addison is rethinking this scenario. He comes off like a real egomaniac who is too full of himself, with so many sexual innuendos, it would make anyone blush, or in Addison’s case, really pissed off.  Meanwhile, Barrett cannot understand why his charms, for lack of a better word, do not work on Addison.  Their relationship is pretty contentious at first, until they start spending real time with each other.  You will be most surprised who falls the hardest.

This book was funny with lots of back and forth.  Addison is super smart, and extremely stubborn and Barrett is hot and although can come off as an ass, he’s extremely caring.  This love story was a slow burn, but they got down to the sexy times, it was really hot.

I really enjoyed this book and how Addison wasn’t swayed by Barrett. He needed to know he wasn’t God’s gift and have anyone just because of his pretty face and his ahem “Bear”.  So if you’re looking for a fun and funny political book, Running Mate is the book to read.
