Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed—and then coughed on—her at a party the night before.

Luckily, her best friend might have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.

Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from NYT and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to keep you laughing and swooning all night long.

What happens when you go to your best friend’s engagement party (stealing appetizers to take home later), goes to the ladies room, comes out and proceeds to get the best kiss ever from a handsome stranger? Yeah this is exactly what happens to Ruby Scott. She’s a struggling actress, trying to make it on her own without daddy’s help, whom by the way, thinks she needs to grow up and start working for him instead, yeah not going to happen. And who is the sexy stranger that kissed her senseless, you’re asking? Well known other than Bancroft Mills or Bane as he is also known. He’s rich and hot as hell.

You know that old Murphy’s Law cliche, when anything goes wrong, everything goes wrong, or something like that, you get the gist right? Yeah, well poor Ruby gets violently sick during an audition, which by the way she needs the job. To make things worse, she’s also being evicted. Let’s call that very hot kiss with the hot stranger, the kiss of death, well not really. Things do happen for a reason, she somehow reconnects with the sexy stranger, whom by the way, needs a pet sitter for the next five weeks and she needs a place to stay after being evicted, so it’s a win/win. Oh no, you would think said pets were … you know … a cat and/or dog, right? Nope, it would be for his ferret and scorpion!

We already knew Bane and Ruby had chemistry even from that first kiss. Their friendship forms over cyberspace and text messages as he checks on his pets. And he finally comes back from his trip, the relationship gets more intimate and sexy times are hot, hot, hot.

Told from dueling POVs, you get both Ruby and Bane’s voice. You will immediately fall in love with Ruby and her fight for independence from her idiotic father. Besides that audition hiccup, she does have the acting chops. Bane was a breath of fresh air too, although a hard worker, he too doesn’t let the money get to his head. This is a standalone, so no worries about a cliffhanger. I am curious about Ruby’s best friend, I think she needs her own book. This book had a lot of funny moments. I adored the ferret! Ruby and Bane were seriously hot for each other. I adore Ms. Hunting’s writing, especially her rom/com, but there was a lot of contemporary romance into this story as well. On May 30th, stop what you’re doing and one-click Shaking Up.
