Breslin—I was in love with Asher Holden the moment I saw him…and I knew nothing would ever be the same.
Then he hurt me. He wrecked me. He ruined me.
I spent three years putting myself together—fixing what he broke.
I never thought I’d see him again after that day.
I was counting on it.
Little did I know—life had other plans…and things were going to become a lot more complicated.

Asher—I finally know who I am. I own it, I embrace it…I’m no longer afraid.
I live my life with no regrets now, because I’ve learned my lesson—the hard way.
I thought I had it all figured out.
But then my past collides with my present…and things become complicated.
Turns out I don’t really know myself after all.

Landon— My life was all mapped out.
I knew exactly what direction I was heading in—I didn’t have time for any roadblocks or obstacles.
Then I meet her.
And him.
Now, my heart is split right down the middle.
She controls the rhythm. He controls the melody.
Complicated doesn’t even begin to cover it…and there’s only one way this can end.

Trigger Warning:
This story is strange and unconventional. It’s everything you hate. That’s the only warning I can offer you.

For those of you that have read an Ashley Jade book, you know she loves writing darker/erotica.  Complicated Hearts is my first Ashley Jade book.  Put down your pitchforks okay!  I do know she’s an exceptional writer not having read any of her books.  Her readers have nothing but great reviews and praise for her writing.  When she mentioned she was writing a New Adult novel with m/f, m/m, m/f/m book, well you know I and to beg and plead to enter her ARC review team.  Okay, I’m exaggerating, but I did want to read this book, I had to read this book.  Ms. Jade was kind enough to send me a very early advance copy, I was both humbled and honored.

The book starts in the past (three years), it centers mostly Breslin and Asher and a little bit of Landon.  Breslin is trying to fit into her new high school, she’s basically the outcast, until Asher saves the day.  Soon they become friends to dating.  Then prom happens, and Breslin world comes crashing down after her night with Asher.  Asher did not know after telling Breslin what he has done, he didn’t expect for Breslin to break up with him.

Moving three years, Breslin is in college, she is trying to still get over Asher even three years later after the bomb he told her.  She’s trying with the likes of Landon.  He’s a hot nerdy music major who also is a tutor at the college she attend.  Breslin gets an opportunity to travel to Europe for school and the instance of her BFF Kit, she heads out to Europe, in the process breaking Landon’s heart.

Oh Asher, let’s just say that all his aspirations for playing football at the college he originally planned to attend, didn’t go the way he wanted.  I can’t say much without too many spoilers, let’s just say, he ends up at the same school as Breslin and somehow he ends up with Landon as his tutor.  And this is where I will end explaining the book.

I have read book with angst, but Complicated Hearts takes angst to an all time high.  Just when I think … okay … Ashley is going to give my heart a reprieve, she hits me with another bout of anxiety.  My heart was racing throughout EVERY …. FREAKING … CHAPTER!!!  Oh and the sexual tension and sexy times, holy hell you need to read in the privacy of your own home!

Let’s also discuss the elephant in the room, shall we.  What that may be, you may be asking?  Well let me enlighten you.  I understand about triggers, I don’t suffer from them per say, but I rarely read dark romance.  It is not because of triggers, it is because it takes me a long time to recover from them.  As I stated above, I know Ms. Jade has written dark novels and from all the praise from readers and authors alike, she writes them well.  Now before Complicated Hearts even had a name or written words, the author had a poll regarding m/m , m/f, m/f/m.  She has been very nervous to write this book.  Here’s the thing, if this is not your cup of tea, then don’t read it.  We’re all adults, right?  If you’re reading romance with hot sex, then what’s the difference if there are multiple partners added?  Nothing, in my opinion anyway.  But if this is your first Ashley Jade book, then read it with an open mind.  Also, yes, there’s a cliffhanger, so deal with that too and don’t complain about it either.  The author has promised the second book to be out by end of Summer.  That’s not bad in my opinion.  And you know what?  You’re not going to forget book one because it’s going to stay with you like it has stayed with me for the past two or three weeks.  Complicated Hearts is not dark, it’s evocative, makes you feel, makes you want to throw things, makes you want to curse out the author.  When you one-click on June 8, 2017 emerse yourself and prepare yourself for the angst to end all agnst.  You’ve been warned.
