Graham Russell and I weren’t made for one another.

I was driven by emotion; he was apathetic. I dreamed while he lived in nightmares. I cried when he had no tears to shed.

Despite his frozen heart and my readiness to run, we sometimes shared seconds. Seconds when our eyes locked and we saw each other’s secrets. Seconds when his lips tasted my fears, and I breathed in his pains. Seconds when we both imagined what it would be like to love one another.

Those seconds left us floating, but when reality knocked us sideways, gravity forced us to descend.

Rating: 4.25 stars

Book one in the sexy and intense new White Lies duet by Lisa Renee Jones!

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and sometimes our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma’s Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which, I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not. Provocative because I sought her out, with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn’t change why I came for her.

Of course, my date won’t be Prince Charming. All I’m asking for is a pleasant night out on the worst single day of the year. That’s not exactly shooting for the stars, now is it?

Apparently, it is.

Because not only am I stuck with the date from hell, but the fates don’t think I’ve suffered enough, so why not seat me next to my secret crush. Title: Turning Back
Series: Turning #2

Genre: Dark Erotic Suspense
Release Date: April 12, 2017
Rating: 4.25 stars

I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.

Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was always there for me… Until he wasn’t.

Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there for me and he never regretted it.

Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself. Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.

And now he might be the only one I have left.

It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could’ve been so much more. It could’ve been so much better.

And that’s why I’m turning back.

Turning Back is book 2 in the Turning Series, so if you haven’t read Taking Turns, you need stop reading this review (not that I’m going to give you spoilers), but in order to understand the dynamics, you have to start at the beginning.

A brief overview of Taking Turns.  We met Rochelle very briefly.  She started the “game” with Bric, Quin and Smith.  After she discovers she’s pregnant, she enlists the help of Chella and decides to leave the “game”.  Quin, who was in love with Rochelle was devastated and when he finds out she was pregnant, and possibly terminated her pregnancy because of Bric, well things got a lot tense between him and Bric.

Moving forward a year, Rochelle is living in Pagosa Springs, swanky spa like facility.  She is just there for a bit and thinking of moving again, until Bric lands at her door.  As many readers, I was curious to know why Rochelle really left the “game”.  I mean she had the life.  Granted, Smith dropped out of the game while she was around, but things happen for a reason, right?  He did get Chella.  Yet, Rochelle still had the attention of two men, and although she felt a bigger connection towards Quin, she still left him.  So when you finally read the why, you get a bit of an understanding.

Oh Elias Brickman, you know he’s truly a conundrum.  He’s always been either 2 or 3 in the “game”.  He’s the one that you would go to, if you wanted to go to nice party, or if you needed someone to just lean on.  But he’s a master manipulator.  We all knew he wasn’t a “fan” of children or even wanting children, yet he fell in love with Adley (Rochelle’s daughter), instantly.  Like my heart melted whenever he had scenes with Adley.

And now we have Quin, who has been mourning the loss of his true love, meanwhile, she’s back in town, with a baby.  He was so angry with Rochelle, holy hell.  We’ve known Quin to be the laid back, fun-loving boyfriend, but is mistrust for Rochelle is very warranted.  Let’s just say, I wouldn’t want to hurt Quin ever again lol.

We do see Smith, who had an integral part in this book as well as Chella.  Smith won me over in Taking Turns, and to see him in this book and how evolved he has become now that he has a solo relationship with Chella, was panty melting.

So does Rochelle end up with Quin, is Adley his or Bric’s baby?  Well I’m not answering those questions, you need to dive into Turning Back like I did to get those answers.  We all know Ms. Huss can write some scorching hot sexy times, and a menage like anyone’s business.  What I thought even hotter, was the trust and intimacy connection that Bric and Quin had with Rochelle and even each other.  Having said all that, and I may be in the minority, it wasn’t as suspenseful as Taking Turns.  I will admit that at one point I wasn’t exactly sure who Rochelle would end up with, I think I wanted more of something that I always expect in Ms. Huss’ books.  Her writing is stellar, not going to take that away.  I am now curious about His Turn.

July 2017 looks far away, but cannot wait for the conclusion of this trilogy.

“So then what happened?” Bric asks.

We’re sitting at our booth in the White Room. Before I left, I’d sit in the middle of the bench, Quin would sit across from me in a chair, and Bric would sit to my left.

Bric is still to my left, Quin isn’t here yet—if he’s coming at all—and Adley is in her baby seat on my right.

Everything is familiar—but off.

“Then he went to bed.”

“What’d you do?”

“I sat there on the couch for a while trying to figure out what happened.”

“What did you come up with?” Bric is looking very intently at me. Like everything I’m saying is critically important.

“He hate-fucked me, that’s what I came up with, Bric!”

“Rochelle,” Bric says, throwing me one of those Don’t overreact looks.

“I’m serious. There’s no other explanation for it. He hate-fucked me. Revenge fuck. Whatever you want to call it. That’s what happened last night.” I sigh and try not to feel depressed and sad. “And then this morning I got out of bed to go check on Adley when she woke up, and when I came back, he was gone.”

“Gone?” Bric asks. “Where’d he go?”

“Just left,” I say. “I texted him. Asked if he’d be here for breakfast. And he never texted back.”

“He’s just mad,” Bric says.

“I know.” I huff. “He told me that last night too. He spelled it out very clearly. He was worried about me. Sad about my leaving. But then when I came back—”

“Now he’s just angry.”

“It’s a pretty typical reaction,” Bric says.

“I realize that. Which is why I’m not going to make a big deal about this. But I don’t know if this is going to work, Bric. He might not want me. He might just want to hurt me. Exactly the way I hurt him.”

“No,” Bric says, like I’m being ridiculous.

“I’m not being ridiculous,” I say. “Maybe he’s not out to hurt me. But he’s doing something, Bric. He’s playing a game, but I’m pretty sure we’re not all playing the same game.”

“He’s mad, Rochelle. You have to expect that. He’s gonna come around.”

“What does that mean? Come around? Do you really think he’s gonna fall back in love with me the way he was? Because I don’t. I think he’s here for us. Me, you, and him together. And that’s all.”

Bric rubs his hand across his scratchy jaw as he thinks this over, so I check on Adley. She fell asleep in the car on the way over here and hasn’t woken up yet. Bric is still thinking.

“I don’t want an us, Bric.”

He looks me in the eye and says. “I do. But I get it. And I’m fine with you and Quin getting your little happy ending. But I’m telling you, Rochelle, he’s just trying to protect himself right now and the best way to let him work that out and ensure you two get back together is to have an us.”

“He said he doesn’t trust me.”

“He has a good reason,” Bric counters.

“I know that,” I say, starting to get angry. “I understand that. But the whole point of us doing this… game… or whatever it is, was so that you can help me figure this out. I want him, Bric. You’re supposed to help me.”

But as soon as the words come out of my mouth I realize how stupid that is. I trust no one and I have very good reasons for that. I’ve learned over the course of my life that people are selfish. People are out for themselves. People are liars. I have a lot of experience in being lied to.

Elias Bricman definitely fits all those assumptions I have about people. And then some.

I met Bianca in an elevator.

She was on her way to interview me when we got stuck.
The beautiful, raven-haired reporter assumed I was a delivery guy because of the way I was dressed.

She had no clue I was really Dex Truitt, the wealthy, successful businessman she’d dubbed “Mister Moneybags”—her afternoon appointment.

Bianca told me how much she hated Dex’s type—snobby, over educated, silver- spooned men who didn’t appreciate the simple things in life.

So, after the elevator finally started moving again, I cancelled the interview and let her believe I was someone I wasn’t—a bike messenger named Jay. I loved the way she looked at the fake me and didn’t want it to end.

I began dating her as “Jay”—all the while letting her interview the real me over email.

I didn’t expect that our chemistry online would be just as hot.
I didn’t expect the mess I’d gotten myself into.
I didn’t expect that Jay and Dex would fall in love with her.

And she was falling for two men.
