Inside the Author with 20 Questions: Brynne Asher

1. What is one thing about you that would surprise us?
Besides being able to kick ass with a nail gun, I grew up sailing and love it.  I even learned to race at a young age, though I probably wouldn’t be great at it now, but it was a lot of fun.

2. What would an ideal day be for you?
My ideal day?  Hmm…I would sleep until I woke up on my own, and when I did, I’d be in the mountains during the summer.  I would sit outside, drinking coffee and reading, followed by a hike, dinner, a fire, and cocktails.  All with my family and dog, of course.

Wake up when my body feels like it, read a book, nap, read some more while a maid cleans and a chef cooks. Then my son gives me kisses every time he sees me, and my husband comes home with a diamond ring… hehehe. Hey, why not?

Author Spotlight (Interview): Shanora Williams

☆ ☆ ☆ Author Spotlight: Shanora Williams @shanorawilliams ☆ ☆ ☆

Years ago, our reviewer, Miri, was going crazy about a new author in the romance world.  From there, we were introduced to Gage and the Fire Nine gang.  Over the years, she has become a favorite among our reviewers, tackling new genres and sensitive themes along the way.

While balancing writing and motherhood, she has now she is taking on a new challenge in her life, hosting her first book signing, A Dark & Seductive Affair.  We are thrilled to be a part of this event, with Yaya and Tammy working out daily details with Shanora.

With that event taking place this July, we thought we’d give you a chance to learn more about Shanora.

You wrote your first book at a very young age.  Tell us what inspired you to start and how you went about getting your book noticed.
What inspired me most is my mother. She’s a hard worker, worked over 40+ hours a week when I lived with her, was a single mother, and still managed to find time to write at night. I started picking up the habit during my senior year of high school and then started writing romance stories in a journal at school (and getting in trouble a few times).
I’m not exactly sure what truly got my book noticed. I connected with a lot of other indie authors who were just starting out too, a few years back, and they were generous enough to point me in the right direction and share my book(s) when released.

As a Mom, with another baby on the way, how do you balance out your writing/social media, with family time?
I have no freaking clue! I know it comes with not getting enough sleep at night for sure. I work in spurts as well. If I have a deadline, I will work late for about 2 weeks straight to try and wrap up on a book, and then take a break for about 2-3 weeks before I start working on the next project. With another baby on the way it’s going to be tough to balance it out, which is why I’ve completed two books before his due date, but I hope to get into the swing of things soon after.

You’ve tackled a lot of genres within romance.  What was your favorite book to write?  What was the hardest book to write (either based on subject matter or emotional connection)?
My favorite: The BEWARE Duet.
My hardest: Infinity. It was the hardest because it was based on true events and the woman the story is based on was like a best friend to me. I wanted to make sure it was great.

Do you read reviews for your books?  If yes or no, why?
I used to. Not anymore!

How did the idea for A Dark & Seductive Affair come to be?
It came about 2 years ago, but I didn’t think I could pull it off. I’m still kind of nervous about it! I wanted to make a unique event with the same genre of authors, something nice and simple, but still a little elegant. I kind of got tired of being in a room of like 55-100 authors who all write in different genres. It’s hard to network that way because, besides writing the book, we have no similarities. There is no intimacy. Big signings are fun, and it’s good to connect with those authors, but it is easy to get swallowed in the masses. I wanted to make something smaller – no more than about 35 authors who write in similar genres, that way the authors can get to know one another, talk about those similar genres and what they are good at/how to develop, and so readers don’t have to rush from table to table before time is up.

If a reader only reads paranormal and doesn’t care about erotica, it won’t work. If a reader only reads fluffy, soft romances and wouldn’t dare touch a dark romance, why put them in the same signing room, or even put their tables right beside each other’s? It just never clicked with me or made any sense, and so A Dark & Seductive Affair was born!

He was there the night my brother was murdered. He watched it all go down.
I should stay away. The things I saw weren’t acceptable.
I should want Ace as far away from me as possible—I should consider him a monster and a threat—but when my life is at stake I know I no longer have a choice of the matter. He’s the only one that can protect me.
He’s done what he can to keep me out of danger, but it’s not enough. I need answers. I need the truth. He refuses to give it to me, and because of that I don’t trust him. He refuses to tell me what really happened and to just forget about it but I refuse.

Perhaps you were right, but it didn’t matter because what I did know was that I loved the way you felt–loved the way you smelled. I loved how hard you got for me, and when you called me your Little Knight.
I can still remember that day in the park, when you held me close and kissed me deep. How you effortlessly made me cry your name on top of sweet smelling grass, making me feel like the only girl in the world. I loved how you looked at me, how you spoke to me.
I had been madly in love with you ever since I was twelve years old, but I shouldn’t have been.
Isabelle would have hated it–my best friend. I couldn’t afford to lose her. Besides, you two had already lost enough. Losing Mrs. Black was the epitome.

It’s Chloe Knight.
I wanted to be there for you no matter what, but Isabelle needed me too.
And she would have hated me if she ever found out I was sleeping with her father.
